If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

It’s here!  I have now launched my new career-life-coach website, which replaces my old rosbott.com site and is a vast improvement!

My coaching service remains the same, specialising in helping people with career change and development, but with an extra speciality in home business coaching.  This is a special coaching service for anyone who owns a home business and needs help with issues such as motivation, time management, goal-setting and confidence.

I also offer an online life coaching service, where you can be coached via email or instant messaging.  Telephone coaching is also now possible for people overseas via Skype.  This means I can offer my services globally, as well as offering face-to-face coaching for local clients.

The benefits of life coaching include:

  • being able to set realistic and achievable goals
  • developing commitment to reach your goals
  • developing a clear vision for your future
  • boosting your self confidence and self belief
  • letting go of fears that stop you moving forward
  • improving communication with colleagues, friends and/or family

Do head on over to www.career-life-coach.com and see what you think!  There are still a few things to iron out, but it should all work OK - if you notice any anomalies, please email me at ros@writer-ros.co.uk.  Oh, and everyone is entitled to one free initial consultation with no obligation to continue so why not give it a go?

Professional Coaching for Your Change of Career

Not Sure What Career To Choose?

Posted on September 3rd, 2008

Whether you are a school leaver, or if you are changing careers later in life, choosing a new career can be a scary procedure.  All kinds of pressures and conflicting arguments can make it very difficult to make the right choice.  Parental or peer pressure may make you feel that you should be doing something that will give you financial security.  On the other hand, you want to do something that you truly enjoy.  If you are unsure of what career to choose, you may need some objective help.

Using the services of a career coach can help to clarify your ideas and work out what is best for you.  On the other hand, this can be quite expensive.  I know that not everyone can afford the luxury of such support, which is why I wrote How To Find Your Dream Career and why I only charge £5.99 for it ($11) .

This ebook is in 3 sections:

  1. Discover Yourself, Your Passion and Your Purpose
  2. Set Your Goals
  3. Developing Confidence

You will find lots of exercises to help you find the kind of job or career that will fit your interests and values, and you will also be taught goal-setting skills so that you can achieve your career goal, and also be able to develop your confidence so you are not stopped by any self-limiting beliefs or fears.

You will find the link to download this book at my coaching website:

Self Help Online

Posted on September 2nd, 2008

If you browse any bookshop, you will find that one of the biggest sections these days is the self help section.  Self help, or personal development, is big business in the publishing world with books on how to improve your life in all kinds of ways being published on almost a daily basis.  Nowadays, of course, there are also plenty of ways you can find self help online, and quite often you can join and use these sites for free.

Here are a few of my favourite personal development websites:

TUT: Mike Dooley’s website is all about believing in infinite possibilities, and his tag line is “thoughts become things”.  You can order the Infinite Possibilities: The Art of Living Your Dreams program, or you can go to the main website and get free “Notes from the Universe” and other inspirational stuff.

Authentic Transformation  This is what Neil Crofts says about his services: “Whatever you do to make a living I can help you find a way to make life more meaningful - whether that means finding a new job, starting your own business or transforming the business you work for or own.”  Neil offers ebooks, free newsletters and coaching services for business and individuals.

MindTools   Mindtools is full of both free and paid-for programs.  There are self-study courses, coaching services and ebooks for all career-based issues, including time management, stress management, communication skills, memory improvement, leadership skills, problem solving etc.

Solution Box  If you are already a life coach, David Wood has some great resources in how to build your business - and also training for those who would like to become a life coach.  If you’re not a life coach, there is a great “Create A Life You Love” newsletter and a popular book called The Truth About Women (!)

Success University  If you would like to get online training with TOP speakers in the industry, get motivational CDs and DVDs in the post, a monthly newsletter AND make money, then this is definitely the site for you!  You can get a $2 trial for two weeks before you decide to join. Courses cover a wide range of topics, including self confidence, communication skills, financial skills, goal-setting, leadership skills - loads for you to dip into!

I hope you enjoy looking at these sites.  If you have any further suggestions for self help online sites, then leave me a comment.

If you still prefer to sit down with a book, I have also chosen a few self-help books below:

How To Achieve Goals? The Answer Is In Your Vision

Posted on August 27th, 2008

Most of us have goals in life.  Most of us have some thing, or lifestyle, that we want.  We may say that’s what we want, we may even write it down – but how do you achieve goals without knowing what they look like?  How many of us have vision?

“We all know what a goal is, but vision is a topic of confusion for many,” the founder of Success University, Matt Morris, recently said. “Your vision is how you see yourself.  You can set goals all day long, but if you cannot truly see yourself achieving them, your goals will never be realized. To accomplish a goal, you must truly expect to achieve it.”

Self Education is the Key to Making Our Dreams Come True

Posted on August 20th, 2008

“Formal education will make you a living but self education will make you a fortune.” This was said by Jim Rohn, one of the top 50 motivational speakers in personal development and one of the trainers at the top online personal development site, Success University.

Formal education is never easy.  When I was at school I wasn’t really that bothered about whether I got an A in Maths or History.  I was too worried about whether people liked me or not, where I could get the latest Rod Stewart photos or whether my skirt was the trendiest length.

The Benefits Of An Online Life Coach

Posted on August 18th, 2008

Traditionally, life coaches work with a client face-to-face, or by telephone.  However, a new development in the coaching industry is the rise of online coaching, via email or instant messenging.  So what are the benefits of an online life coach, and which kind of coaching would be best for you?

Face to face coaching is usually recommended as the most ideal form.  Why?  Because coaches, like counsellers, are not only trained to listen well, but also to recognise body language and tone of voice that can give them extra information, and sometimes see things that the client does not even realise themselves.

With online coaching, the coach does not have these tools to go by, and therefore has to rely on the words the client uses.  This means that online coaching (or e-coaching) is usually cheaper than traditional coaching because the coach has a slight handicap!

However, if face-to-face or telephone coaching does not fit in with your budget or lifestyle, e-coaching can be an extremely useful alternative, and much can be achieved as long as the client remains honest and in full communication at all times.

Here are a few of the reasons why online coaching can be of benefit:

  • It can be used as a “tester” of the coaching experience before going on to face-to-face coaching.
  • It is an excellent alternative if you find face-to-face coaching too confrontational.
  • If you do not have the time to set aside an hour every week, e-coaching is a more flexible alternative because you can choose the times you make contact.
  • It may be more suitable if you are on a tight budget.
  • You do not have to be limited to finding a coach in your area: you can choose the coach you want from anywhere in the world (provided they offer e-coaching!)

I currently provide career and confidence coaching, and more information about my e-coaching service is here.

In the very near future I will be extending my coaching service to provide a unique home business coaching service.  Watch this space!

Overcoming Fear of Failure

Posted on August 6th, 2008

Fear of failure is often the very thing that will cause people to fail.  In fact, much of the time, it stops us from even starting a project.

While this fear will keep us from success, it also prevents us from enjoying life in the way it should be enjoyed.

Why do we have such fear, and why is it so debilitating?

Fear of failure has often been developed over a period of time and may originally have been triggered by a need for acceptance and approval from those who are important to us.

When we are young, we all need this acceptance, but people who receive little praise for their efforts or have had constant negative feedback while growing up unfortunately learn that no matter how hard they try, it will never be good enough.  As adults, any potential project seems doomed before it’s even started.

This lack of self belief feeds on itself, and many people become reluctant to try anything new and they can become trapped in an ordinary and unfulfilled life.

Fortunately, no-one has to stay with this mind-set and it is possible for anyone to overcome their fear of failure.

Setting Life Goals: The Key To Achievement

Posted on July 9th, 2008

In his last song, George Harrison wrote: “If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will take you there”.

In other words, if you don’t have a clear idea of what you’re aiming for, you could end up anywhere.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said this: “The world makes way for the man who knows where he is going.”

All this goes to say that you have far more chance of achieving your life dreams if you set clear goals

So, what makes a clear goal? Here are my tips for setting achievable goals:…read more
